 Musings…….

Vinod Rai

What can be said about this civil servant. Today he has tendered his unconditional apology to court in a defamation case filed by a Congress leader.  To be more specific former Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam had filed a defamation case against Vinod Rai, then CAG for alleging that the ex MP had pressured him to drop then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s name from his report.

Vinod Rai a Kerala cadre IAS officer, rose to National stardom when he as CAG reported on the 2G and coal block allocations. This led to the UPA- II government to be portrayed as corrupt.

What subsequently followed is anyone’s guess. Congress led government was comprehensively voted out in 2014, leading to the rise of Narendra Modi to the helm.

Since 2014 India is under majoritarian, right wing, Hindutva led NDA rule. What has it produced ? Blunder over blunder right from Demonetisation to botched up GST law, to mismanagement of the economy to huge price rise !!

The Petrol- Diesel- LPG price rise has reached record levels with daily increase and no respite in sight. The price of a litre of petrol in my area today is ₹114 !!

After the Modi Government came to power, Vinod Rai was made chairman of Banks Board Bureau which he held from 2016 to 2018.

Does Vinod Rai owe this nation an apology for false accusations in both Coal and 2G spectrum reports is anybody’s guess.

The consequences of his actions is that the “Idea of India” which came into existence through the sacrifice of millions in the Freedom Struggle, itself is under threat.

Fake propaganda and Post Truth/ Alternate truths rule the country now.

Vinod Rai is currently the chairman of the UN Panel of external auditors and a honorary advisor to the railways. The least he could do is resign from public life.

As far as Dr. Manmohan Singh sir is concerned, his words that “ History will judge me better”, is turning out to be veracious.

Food for Thought…….
