Musings.......

I cannot help but write!!

The situation in India is pathetic right now to the extent that if I write on any subject other than this, there is a high chance of myself be labelled insensitive.

Words like Destruction of Democracy and carnage of secular India are just understatements. Popular protests and demonstration have been the hallmark of Indian democracy - Satyagraha the term and theme coined by our own Mahatma. Peaceful protests in India is spiritual emancipation of the masses according to Gandhi.

The recent amendment to the Citizenship Act of 1955 is testimony to the fact that we are being ruled by a fascist, right wing government with an agenda of making Secular India into a “Hindu Rashtra”. Myself being a Hindu I would like to state categorically that I won’t be happy living under a Hindu king!!
Gone are the days of Kings and Monarchs. We live in modern day Democracy under Rule of Law!!

Matter at hand is Citizenship Amendment Act ( CAA) Without much ado I would like to State the obvious.
The Hindutva Agenda- No CAA without NRIC. ( National Register of Indian Citizens)
Simply put, the CAA is a safety net that will ensure, the Citizenship of all Hindu, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis- not just the lakhs of Hindus classified as “illegal migrants” by the Assam NRC, but also others in India who might be classified as “ foreigners” when the NRIC is implemented. Losing out is the poor Muslims in the process.
Being a secular country, with “Secularism” instilled as the basic structure of the Constitution, this Amendment goes against the essence of India and whatever we consider Indian.

It is not the bill itself, but the aftermath of the passing of the bill that has led me to the article.
Spontaneous protests erupted among students all over the country. Universities protested, most notably the Jamia Milia and JNU in New Delhi. The northeast was completely shut down in protest.
The police retaliated brutally leading to many injured and few killed. And we are talking of a democratic state!
The proponents of Digital India campaign have now kept part of the country’s Internet suspended.

India is undergoing a slowdown in its economy.  Inflation levels are surging, unemployment levels are at 40 year high. GDP growth rate this quarter is close to 4.5%, that too when there are doubts on data collection- the real GDP rate could well be at 2-3 %.  On top of all this our PM today emphatically declares that his Government saved the Indian Economy from imminent disaster.  To have the gall for chest-thumping at this juncture is an art that everyone should learn from Narendra Modi.

Blatant human rights abuses and state sponsored incarceration in Jammu and Kashmir, imposition of Section 144 in major parts of the country, frequently reported rape cases and encounter killings, police firing and killings from Mangalore, blatant disregard towards public opinion are just snippets of what is happening in this country.

Keeping in mind to the fact that i should not be “negative” in my approach to writing, I should also mention some positives. All Indians should rejoice as our Union Home Minister has declared a sky touching Temple in Ayodhya within 4 months, UP CM has pledged to revenge the protesters, and Supreme Court has reprimanded protesters to stop before approaching the SC !!
Our army Chief time and again for the past week has given warnings of an impending Pakistani attack from PoK.

Meanwhile Onion prices in India has reached triple figures, and prices of Potato are catching up. India’s Finance Minister is declared one of Forbes 100 most powerful women.
Ok I should stop my ranting.

The more I go on, the higher the chance myself be labelled an “ urban naxal”. You heard it right , “Urban Naxals” is what our PM called the student protesters.

To end on a cheerful note - President Trump was impeached in USA and he still has a higher chance of winning re- election;  Brazilian right wing President Jair Bolsnaro is the Chief guest for this years Republic Day Parade.
We can only hope we do not wake up tomorrow to a “ Hindu Pakistan” !!

Food for Thought.......
