Musings......
I am feeling pretty sleepy while I start writing this post but then I feel compelled to write.
Rakhine is the westernmost states of Myanmar, formerly Burma which is also one of its poorest. It houses one of the most backward communities, the Rohingyas.
Muslims by faith, the Rohingyas have become stateless in their own birthplace. When a Buddhist country decides to not recognise the Rohingyas, as official citizens then it becomes Modern day Genocide.
Rakhine state borders the Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed the refugees with open arms and proved to the world, a true stateswomen when she said even though Bangladesh is poor, we have humanity and can easily share their poverty with the landless refugees.  What a magnanimous gesture from a true stateswoman and a veteran leader of state.
Here is where India comes into picture. Our NDA government decides not to open its borders to Rohingyan refugees. This is in direct violation of Indias known foreign policy followed from the times of Pandit Nehru.
India is a country with a glorious past. Though a poster child for third world countries post independence, India has always taken the high road when it comes to humanitarian work and has set an example to the world in crisis management.
This decision from the central government shows its blatant disregard towards minorities in general. The decision with which Indians can hang their head in shame in the International arena. Even the UN criticises India for its spineless foreign policy.
The reason for the Governments decision, they claim is that the Rohingyan refugees would create security risk for our country. This sort of paranoia arises from propaganda mindsets if you know what I mean.
One surprising thing from this issue is the stand taken by Daw Aung Sang Sui Kyi.  Her support for the Buddhists must have arisen from Political necessities, however she should not have forgotten that she is a Nobel Prize Winner.
In my opinion the Indian government should do all help possible to curb this modern day genocide and take a high moral stand in the Rohingyan refugee crisis. Then only will the world truly consider Prime Minister Modi a true statesman which he and his media friends claim him to be.

Coming to down south in Kerala, the BJP with its Yatra seems to have touched a raw nerve. By invoking Hindutva they feel they can create fissure within Malayalis and capitalise on communal flare up. But then as they say Malayalis are a different lot. Its not long before Modiji and Amit Shahji realises that the people here cannot be fooled. Till then let us watch and enjoy their Yatra carried along with hired Bengalis and thugs with amusement.
Food for thought.......
