Musings....
I have been mostly off social media for the past few weeks and seems to have missed out a lot. Slowly realising the fact that Social media is now the new mainstream and conventional media just shows news created by them.
The past few weeks have seen silent changes in the political India.
The political narrative which was being comprehensively controlled by the ruling BJP for the past three years since it came to power is slowly losing grip.
Few incidents added fuel to the Opposition jet.
Talking of fuel, the fuel prices in India are at an all time high. Newly appointed Tourism Minister of India,an MoS with Independent charge defends the govt saying Modi sarkar has deliberately hiked the prices of fuel across India to create toilets, and that petrol is mostly used by the rich who drive cars and not the poor. The minister happens to be an ex-IAS officer. Statistics clearly show that more than 70% of Petrol is used by the poor who drive two wheelers. Today our Finance Minister comes out in support of the hike saying its all in the name of Vikas. What about Sabka Vikas that this govt was talking about before and after elections?
Coming to Gauri Lankesh murder, it will remain a blot on Democracy and free speech in our country. When rationalists and independent thinkers are eliminated, there starts disintegration of our society. Gauri Lankesh murder follows close to the heels of murder of Dhabolkar, Pansare, and Kalburgi who voiced their opinion without fear through their writings. It is cowardice, that's what this is and this central government and its political ideology has blood on its hands.
I was not surprised when following the news of her murder, tweets commending the killing cropped up in social media through few mad men, few of them followed by our Prime Minister Modiji. After all our PM is not a novice when it comes to Riots and Murders. Selective amnesiacs will remember Godhra carnage and the aftermath Gujarat riots not so long ago when our PM was the then Gujarat CM.
If I am not mistaken BJP president Amit Shahji recently did gave statement in Special Court presiding over the Gujarat Riot case in support of one Mayaben Kodani, Minister in then Modi cabinet and chief accused.
Twitter response was prompt with #blocknarendramodi doing the rounds.
Another interesting thing happened post murder of Gauri Lankesh, my mother comes up to me and tells me to stop writing the stuff that I do, mostly which is speaking my mind and I was dumbstruck. Such is the paranoia that is gripping this country my friends.
India then witnessed the visit of Japanese PM to Gujarat and the groundbreaking ceremony of installation of Bullet train in the Ahmedabad-Mumbai sector. A close study of Bullet trains in Japan except for the Tokyo- Okinawa sector and Taiwan shows that it is largely economically unviable. Japanese pay huge sums as ticket fees for travel which may not be affordable by the poor. After all our PM in a previous speech now trending in social media from 2013 has denounced the plan for Bullet train saying and I quote " no one is going to use it".
The inauguration of the incomplete Sardar Sarovar Dam Is another example of the levels this government would go to garner votes as the timing clearly coincided with the Gujarat assembly elections which is round the corner. Environmentalists concerns and issues regarding the rehabilitation of the displaced poor are yet to be solved.
Suddenly the mood of the nation seems to have changed. The previously steadfast Bhakts seem to have second thoughts. People are slowly getting tired of the Jumlas and dictatorship attitude of our PM and this Government.
With two excellent speeches by Rahul Gandhi at UC Berkeley and Princeton in USA where he is currently touring , he seems to have turned over a new leaf.
Could a rejuvenated Rahul Gandhi and a resurrected National Congress Party could still have enough steam to stop the current govt in its tracks, or will a Third Front come up against Modi Sarkar. We cannot help but wait and watch, until then let's be content with India Shining and Sabka Vikas Jumlas.
Food for Thought.......
