Musings.......

I was left flabbergasted by recent news that the National Registry for Citizens (NRC) was being extended to Tripura. This is when the NRC mandate in Assam, where it was first introduced is in question itself.  The point of contention is the famous Assam Accord of 1985 by which all persons entering India from newly formed Bangladesh were to be considered illegal migrants. This meant all those who came after 1971 were to be deported. The NRC intends to deem all persons entering India from Bangladesh as Illegal Migrants which means displacement of people who have made India their home.

This comes close in heels of the Union Government introducing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2016, by which minority migrant communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan be given Indian Citizenship. This includes Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Parsis, Sindhis and the like.  The community missing from the list is obviously the Muslims.

The underlying background behind these well thought out moves being the hidden Sangh Parivar agenda of cleansing our society of anyone non-Hindu and thereby converting India into a " Hindu Pakistan " to borrow the words of a Congress leader.
Another point which comes into mind is a statement by BJP National President, who says that if the BJP comes to power in 2019, they will rule our country for the next 50 years.  In the same breath he says that the BJP will win 350+ seats in the next General Election.

So what gives the BJP so much confidence inspite of its dismal performance as far as governance is concerned?

The answer is they will follow what they are really God and successful at, which is Polarisation Politics.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary describes Polarisation as
"concentration about opposing extremes of groups or interests formerly ranged on a continuum".
Even though the word seems pretty harmless enough, - by playing with people and their thought process influenced by playing religious card- such politics becomes dangerous.
By Polarisation of till then Secular society, such Right wing extremists have shown to create a permanent schism in society from which it never really recoups.

Apt examples of such Polarisation politics are, the social engineering before Godhra Riots in Gujarat and similar turn of events before Babri Masjid Demolition in Uttar Pradesh.
Kerala is one of the most secular of states of India. Being a Malayali myself one of my personal arrogance was how our state has kept out Sangh Parivar out because of Malayalis Political awareness and their firm commitment towards democracy and secularism.

Such arrogance of mine has turned into apprehension by the recent turn of events in Kerala. With the Supreme Court verdict on entry of Women into Sabarimala Temple, there has been a quick change in Kerala political demography. Till now hitherto non- political Hindu womenfolk irrespective of caste differences have taken to the streets in protest against the verdict. The BJP sees a golden opportunity in such a polarised society. The only thing standing in their way is a strong Opposition in the form of Indian National Congress and its allies which has taken a strong stand against the verdict themselves.
This turn of events does make one ponder, whether such a move has the Sangh Parivar touch.  If at all they succeed then the Kerala that we have known till now will cease to exist.
Do you remember the issues that used to be discussed during Dr. Manmohan Singh Government at the centre, at least during UPA- I. They were on economic development and Nuclear deal with the US.  Now 4 years into NDA-I, the only thing we discuss is religion and intolerance.

When I mention in earlier paragraphs that this governments performance has been dismal, I am not masquerading a hoax.
Rising petroleum prices, sliding rupee, agricultural collapse, diminishing jobs, stagnant industry and deflated bank credit are for everyone to see.

Petroleum prices has reached record levels with Petrol and Diesel prises nearing its climb towards three figures. Needless to say this  has broken the backbone of common man.
Rise in petroleum products has in turn led to Inflation. Prices of essential commodities are at an all time high. With Government not agreeing to reduce excise duty on Petroleum, the situation has worsened.  Bringing Petroleum under the ambit of GST is a solution, however our much hyped Union Government is found lacking in taking a bold stance.
Rupee has reached an all time low and now is one of the weakest currency in Asia even behind countries like Bhutan and Myanmar. When our Union Tourism Minister says that a weakened rupee will in turn boost tourism, we have nothing much left to say. The basics of economics is not basic after all. RBIs much delayed response to the crisis by releasing Government bonds and easing rates, is too little too late.

The Indian Banking sector especially the lending operations is at a virtual standstill. The Punjab National Bank scandal is just the tip of the iceberg caused by gross mismanagement by the Union Government.

Till now NDA proudly projected them as a clean non- corrupt scandal. Congress President Rahul Gandhiji 's allegations on the Rafale Deal has caught wind to its sails and in all possibility is growing into a snowball of controversy. What is left to be seen is how much deep is the Nepotism within the Government and whether our Prime Minister is directly responsible.  By discarding HAL and giving a newly registered Reliance Defence, such a huge deal, thereby getting Anil Ambani's company out of debt, nepotism is unquestionable.  All this when in paper this Union Government was going to protect out PSUs is the irony.

With General Elections just months away it would be prudent on the part of us common public, to ponder whether we want to live in a " Hindu Pakistan" because we cannot feed on religion. As they say in Hindi- Ek Dhoka Bahut Zaruri He....... Apni Had Se Bahar Nikal Gaya He Bhai .......!!!
Food for Thought.......
